New Half Marathon Personal Best!!

I have had a great run today :-)

I needed to do my very long pre-marathon run so I signed up for a half marathon.

First I ran the 5k down to the start line where I then picked up my start number, filled up my water bottle, and went to the toilet. Then it was time for the half marathon race.

For the first 3k I was running by the sea at Amagerstrand (which you must know by now is somewhere I love to run). The rest of the half marathon was all the way around Copenhagen Airport. Hence the race was called Lufthavnen Rundt which was organised by Motionsklubben Amager.

For pretty much the first 12k I was in very high spirits singing along to Justin Timberlake on my Ipod :-) (remember 12k in the race was actually 17k for me). I then settled down a bit and concentrated on the running a little more.

Once I got to around the 16k point I have to say that the run was so boring! The backside of the airport is just a VERY long straight road where you can see a really long way ahead. I decided to just play with my music and watch my feet for a while.

I was so glad when this area came to an end around 20k!

The Route

Once I had the finish line in sight I still did my famous sprint finish :-) I crossed the line in 2 hours and 4 minutes. Not sure about the seconds so I'll find that out once the results are on the web.

Anyway I grabbed a couple of cups of water, had a banana, and then run up to the bus stop to add some more kilometres on. I think all the other runners that were still around eating and drinking must have thought I was a little crazy.

I ended running 28k today!! I'm very happy with having that as my long run :-)

Bring on Valencia - 3 weeks today!!

3 Weeks until Valencia!

This time in 3 weeks I will be on my way to Valencia!

I am really looking forward to my trip down there for many reasons...

I get to go somewhere I haven't been before.

I get to spend a few days with my beautiful niece Leah.

I get to enjoy some warmer weather.

And I'LL BE RUNNING VALENCIA MARATHON :-)

I'm running my long pre marathon run this Sunday. I've signed up for a half marathon and the start/finish is 3k from my home so I'll run there and back. That means I'll be running roughly 27k!

I'll be taking it easy during the marathon and am going for a time of 4 hours and 30 minutes which is 15 minutes less than my Copenhagen Marathon time. It just means that I have to run a tiny bit faster, not stop so long for the toilet, and walk through the drinking stations for about 40 seconds each instead of a minute :-)

Berlin Marathon 2012 will be another matter as I'm going to try and get under 4 hours!

Beginner Runner Training and 15k Run!

For the last 4 weeks I have been running a beginner runner training course every Monday!

It is going very well. In 4 weeks we have gone from running 2 minutes and then walking 2 minutes for about half an hour to running somewhere between 8 and 10 minutes and then walking for 2 minutes.

It is a great feeling to be helping others become better runners :-) The goal is that within 10 weeks they will be able to run 5k without stopping and by Christmas will be able to run all the way around The Lakes in Copenhagen!

Before I met up for the training yesterday I had a run of my own for about 7k. With the training added I ran a little over 15k yesterday which was great because I need to get some more longer runs in.

I will be doing a half marathon around the airport on 6th November :-)

Berlin Marathon 2012!!

Ok, so now I know I really am a little mad in the head!

I haven't even run Valencia Marathon yet and I have just signed up to run Berlin Marathon 2012!!

I think Berlin is one of those marathons that just has to be tried :-)

So this blog will still stay alive after Valencia!!

I don't think I can call myself a beginner anymore but I hope this blog can still help others with their first marathon :-)

See you in Berlin Paul from http://50-is-the-new-30.blogspot.com/

Tårnbyløbet 2011!! (Tårnby Race)

On Thursday evening I ran 5k in Tårnbyløbet 2011 with my 8 year old son :-)

It was his first real race and he was very excited about running it!

I thought it was a good idea to start of at a pace of 6 minutes a kilometre. This lasted for about 2k and then my son wanted to go faster and faster! At the 4k point I was beginning to struggle to keep up with him!

I managed somehow to follow a few metres behind him. When we could see the finish line around 200 metres away we both just started running as fast as we could. I actually was much slower in my finish sprint than normal because I had used all my energy keeping up with my son for the last km :-)

He ran very fast and crossed the finish line just in front of me! Our time for 5k was 28 minutes and 40 seconds!

Next time I think I'll just let him go for it from the beginning and try and keep up with him :-)

Still Feeling the Effects of Copenhagen Marathon!

This Photo is for Paul :-)
I've just lost my big toe nail :-(
Doesn't it look disgusting?!?

It has been wanting to come off for months but has keep on hanging in there. A couple of days ago I bent down and heard it rip! I taped it up hoping it would stay on but after todays shower off it came! I've lost 3 toenails now but I think because I wait for them to fall off in their own time they never hurt :-)

Oh well....the good news is that at this rate I won't lose any toenails after Valencia Marathon simply because I won't have any left to lose.....

Busy Busy Busy!!

Again I have had a VERY busy week!

I have been out for the first run with my first paying client :-) It was a lot of fun and we both really enjoyed it! It made me realise that I had made the right choice and that being a running coach is really the right job for me :-)

The AOF running course is confirmed and I will be starting with a class on Wednesday 2nd November!

There are a couple of smaller fitness centres that want to meet up with me and are very interested with me instructing a running group for them!

On top of this I have, of course, continued my Valencia Marathon training and think it is going very well. I feel much fitter than I was when preparing for Copenhagen Marathon.
I think this is because as well as running I have been cycling very much, almost every day this summer.
